Pediatric Surgery & Neonatology

With the increasing scope of intensive care in pediatric practice and the advent of new technology, and tools, Pediatric Intensive Care has emerged as one of the most demanding, highly specialized subspecialty. Our PICU caters to the needs of children beyond one month of age and up to the age of sixteen years.

Children with critical illness, life threatening diseases, multiple injuries (trauma) sustained either through accidents, or diseases involving multiple vital organ systems are cared for in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. To our knowledge- The unit is the only one of its kind In western India to provide complete Pediatric Surgical support also under one roof(For example trauma, Chest surgeries, Pediatric cardiac surgeries ,Flexible Bronchoscopies Etc ).

We are equipped with state of art CT-Scan Machine and in-house radiology, pathology, microbiology support to aid in our diagnosis in this difficult subset.

Pediatric surgery arose in the middle of the 20th century as the surgical care of birth defects required novel techniques and methods and became more commonly based at children's hospitals. One of the sites of this innovation was Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Beginning in the 1940s under the surgical leadership of C. Everett Koop, newer techniques for endotracheal anesthesia of infants allowed surgical repair of previously untreatable birth defects. By the late 1970s, the infant death rate from several major congenital malformation syndromes had been reduced to near zero.

Our surgical team consists of three pediatric general surgeons and three pediatric surgery nurse practitioners skilled in the surgical and postoperative care of premature babies, neonates, children and adolescents up to the age of 19 years. We also have a busy and patient-friendly day surgery program.

Paediatrics & Neonatology is committed to improving the health of newborns, children and adolescents under the age of 16. This nationally acclaimed centre has a specialist team of professionals that includes neonatologists, intensive care specialists, paediatricians and counsellors whose mission is to provide the highest quality of healthcare for the prevention and treatment of illnesses in newborns and children. The institute provides outstanding paediatric and neonatal intensive care to babies and children with various ailments and tackles high risk pregnancies in a nurturing and supportive environment, well equipped with a unit of specialized neonatal incubators and other essential technologies.
paediatric offer paediatric out-patient services for 6 hours daily by a consultant paediatrician. Our Outpatient Department is manned by a dedicated team of customer support staff and a skilled team of nurses used to working with children. The Paediatric Ward is a beautifully designed and wonderfully decorated dedicated 20-bedded ward, with single rooms with en-suite facilities. Each room has all the amenities for the comfort of both child and parents, including a leather sofabed for relatives. We have a full-time consultant paediatrician supported by a team of visiting paediatricians, full-time paediatric nurses and paediatric residents/registrars to provide you with a world-class paediatric service.

Neonatology

Neonatology is the field of medicine that deals with the care of a newborn baby. besides having all of the facilities to care for a healthy newborn baby, we also have a fully-equipped state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) enabling us to take care of all sick newborns, including preterm babies. We are equipped with neonatal ventilators, cardio-respiratory monitors and pulse oxymeters for the surveillance and treatment of our very precious tiny babies. We also have a transport incubator which will enable us to provide a transfer service from other healthcare facilities that would like to transfer a sick baby to our centre.
This department is under the responsibility of a full-time Paediatrician and Neonatologist.
All the facilities to take care of children needing surgery are available under one roof. A well-experienced team of doctors is available to take round-the-clock care of the children. All types of open and endoscopic procedures are performed in the department. Excellent supportive care in the form of a tertiary care NICU is available for sick and critical neonates, plus a fully equipped paediatric surgical ICU with paediatric ventilators and 7X24 anaesthetist backup.
The Department of Paediatrics comprises of well qualified and experienced team of doctors. We offer out-patient, in-patient and intensive care services. We have trained intensivists and nurses in respective sub-specialties to ensure a good outcome to match the statistics of the best centres in the world. At the core of my doctoring self, I am an internist and cardiologist–just like a heart surgeon is a surgeon.
